Ukrainian monitoring channels reported that the Proton optoelectronics plant in the Russian city of Oryol was allegedly targeted in a missile strike. Oryol Region Governor Andrei Klychkov confirmed that an industrial facility was hit and that eight people sustained injuries, mostly minor, but he refrained from officially naming the targeted enterprise, leaving the extent of the damage shrouded in uncertainty.
According to statements attributed to Klychkov, the strike caused a severe fire at a factory located in the Soviet district of Oryol, which emergency services later extinguished. The regional authorities allegedly blamed the Kyiv regime for launching an attack against what they termed civilian infrastructure, while noting that windows in nearby multi-story residential buildings and several vehicles were damaged by the shockwave.
Meanwhile, independent Ukrainian monitoring resources such as Exile+ and Supernova+ claimed that the primary target was indeed the Proton plant, which purportedly manufactures optoelectronic components for Russian military hardware, including Iskander-M ballistic missiles, Pantsir-S1 air defense systems, and cruise missiles. Exile+ asserted that at least one production workshop was destroyed, with collapsed roofs and upper floors halting technological operations.
Information regarding casualties remains sharply contested, with unverified reports from various bloggers and channels suggesting higher death tolls and missing persons, figures that have not been corroborated by official bodies. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the interception of numerous drones across multiple regions on the same day, yet provided no specific elaboration concerning the strike on the Oryol facility.
