Member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) have reportedly agreed on a specific list of weapons, military hardware, and technical security equipment intended for transfer to Tajikistan to reinforce its border with Afghanistan. Authorities are currently processing the necessary documentation and drafting supply contracts, according to CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov.
Masadykov claimed that the implementation of the interstate program aimed at fortifying the Tajik-Afghan border remains a top priority for the organization. Practical work has allegedly already begun, with a specialized working group established in Tajikistan to coordinate the execution of the program.
The CSTO official also asserted the supposed necessity of aligning the efforts of the CSTO, CIS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to counter security threats originating from Afghan territory. He argued that despite the Taliban administration's consolidation of control over the country, significant risks persist in certain regions.
The organization's head emphasized that ensuring long-term stability in Afghanistan and neighboring states requires expanding international cooperation, particularly in combating terrorism and drug trafficking. It is worth noting that earlier this summer, a young female resident of Tajikistan was tragically killed on the border after being struck by a bullet fired from Afghan territory.
