Farrux Zokirov was born on April 16, 1946, in Tashkent. He graduated from the Tashkent State Conservatory in 1969 and joined a vocal-instrumental ensemble established under the Tashkent Institute of Theater and Fine Arts. This ensemble later adopted the name "Yalla" and became a significant part of Uzbekistan's cultural landscape.
In 1975, the "Yalla" ensemble was awarded the title of "Honored Ensemble of Uzbekistan," and Farrux Zokirov became its artistic director in 1976. During the 1980s, the ensemble released albums such as "Uchquduq," "Sevganimning yuzi" ("Face of My Beloved"), and "Musiqiy choyxona" ("Musical Teahouse"). Over its 55-year career, "Yalla" has performed more than 400 songs, contributing substantially to Uzbek music.
The ensemble drew on folk traditions, performing songs like "Yumalab-yumalab," "Qilpillama," "G‘ayra-g‘ayra," and "Boychechak." Songs composed by Farrux Zokirov himself, including "Uchquduq," "Shahrisabz," "Majnuntol," and "Toshkentim onam," are key parts of "Yalla"'s repertoire, uniquely blending Eastern styles with folk-rock and pop music.
Marking the occasion, on Newspaper Day yesterday, Farrux Zokirov was awarded the "For Great Services" order, and a test was prepared based on songs from the "Yalla" ensemble. This event highlights efforts to recognize the ensemble's long-standing contributions and preserve its musical legacy.
