Uzbekistan, Tashkent – AN Podrobno.uz. The Karkidon reservoir in the Kuva district of Fergana region is set to become a flagship for active and eco-tourism in the area. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the progress of the large-scale tourism project being developed around this water body.
The complex is being developed as part of a systematic strategy to turn the country’s natural resources into economic drivers. The total cost of the project is estimated at 635 billion soums, with infrastructure covering an impressive 508 hectares. A unique blend of agro-, eco-, and extreme tourism is being created here, capable of meeting the demands of various traveler categories.
To date, the contours of the future resort are clearly outlined: 45 cozy chalets and 57 modern guest houses have been built, work has begun on an agro-tourism cluster and an eco-bazaar. For those who appreciate aesthetics and tranquility, lavender fields, flower parks, and specialized “quiet corners” are being developed. The reservoir is expected to receive up to 750,000 guests annually, providing service exports worth $5 million.
However, the project’s ambitions extend far beyond traditional recreation. By its full launch in 2027, facilities for thrill-seekers will appear: professional motocross tracks, karting areas, golf courses, and a two-kilometer cable car. The head of state emphasized that such projects are critical for regions – they create about 2,000 new jobs and directly impact local incomes.
Karkidon will be just the first link in a chain of large-scale transformation of the republic’s water bodies. In the near future, similar tourist hubs are planned around Lakes Karateren and Arashan, the Khanabad artificial sea, as well as the Kuksaray, Sabirsay reservoirs, and the Kattakurgan water basin. This approach will not only expand domestic tourism geography but also form a sustainable system that enhances Uzbekistan’s international image.
