A small passenger plane crashed in South Sudan on Monday morning, killing all 14 people on board, the country's civil aviation authority (SSCAA) confirmed.
The aircraft, a Cessna 208 Caravan operated by CityLink Aviation Ltd, went down about 20 km southwest of the capital Juba. It had departed from Yei at 09:15 local time (07:15 GMT) and lost contact with authorities approximately 30 minutes into the flight to Juba.
In a statement, the SSCAA said initial reports suggest the crash may have been caused by adverse weather conditions, particularly low visibility. A team has been dispatched to the crash site for investigations.
Among the victims were 12 South Sudanese nationals and two Kenyans. The plane was carrying the pilot and 13 passengers.
This tragedy highlights ongoing challenges in South Sudan's aviation sector, including poor infrastructure and safety concerns, as the country continues to grapple with the aftermath of years of civil war.
