The Boston World Cup host committee announced Monday that FIFA has reversed its earlier decision and will allow tailgating at World Cup matches at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

The committee stated that the change aligns with local policies, permitting tailgating like any other event at the venue, as there are no venue or public safety restrictions prohibiting it.

FIFA had originally said tailgating would not be allowed at any of the 104 matches, with the US hosting 78, sparking outrage among American football fans. The US is co-hosting the 2026 tournament with Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.

Gillette Stadium, rebranded as Boston Stadium during the World Cup due to FIFA's ban on corporate-sponsored names, will host five group-stage matches, one round-of-32 match, and a quarterfinal. Parking will be severely reduced: about 5,000 spots available for public use compared to 20,000 for Patriots games.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has set train prices at $80 round trip from Boston to Foxborough, four times the cost for NFL and MLS games. An express bus option will cost $95 round trip.

New York City announced Monday it will hold a fan fest in each of its five boroughs. The US will open their campaign against Paraguay on June 12 at SoFi Stadium in California. MetLife Stadium will host the final on July 19.
