An incident of illegal fishing using a prohibited monofilament net has been uncovered in the Surkhandarya region. Inspectors from the regional ecology department conducted an inspection and found that the event occurred on April 9 in the Jarkurgan district, within the territory of the Oktepa reservoir.

Local fishermen noticed a citizen using the banned monofilament net and attempted to stop the violation. The investigation revealed that the violator is a resident of the Gur-gur mahalla in the Jarkurgan district.

It was noted that among the catch was Cyprinus carpio linnaeus, a species included in Uzbekistan's list of protected bioresources. Experts stated that the violator's actions contravene several laws, including nature protection norms and fishing regulations in natural water bodies.

An environmental assessment determined the damage to exceed 78 million soums. The case materials have been submitted to the prosecutor's office for legal evaluation.

Previously, on the Central Mirzachul Canal, Eco-police officers discovered illegal fishing using an electric rod, with damage exceeding 733 million soums.
