In the Boysun district of Surxondaryo region, over 8.5 billion UZS in compensation has been calculated following the leakage of oil-contaminated liquid into the Khongaransoy River. The incident was reportedly caused by heavy rainfall.
An investigation by the State Environmental Control Inspectorate under the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change revealed that the liquid containing petroleum products escaped from a well belonging to the joint venture Surxan Gas Chemical Operating Company LLC. To prevent the liquid from reaching natural water bodies, Eriell Oilfield Services Middle East DMCC dug 11 trenches using specialized equipment.
On April 23, due to heavy downpours, approximately 1.2 tons of liquid mixed with petroleum products flowed into the Khongaransoy River in Boysun. The environmental damage was assessed in accordance with Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 202 of April 12, 2021, resulting in over 8.5 billion UZS in compensation.
Currently, the situation has been resolved, and the water has been cleaned of the oil-contaminated liquid. The investigation is ongoing. Collected documents will be submitted to law enforcement agencies for final legal assessment.
