During a visit to Fergana region, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on the development concept for Fergana International Airport.
The current terminal has been in operation for over thirty years. Its capacity, passenger comfort level, and opportunities for developing aviation and non-aviation services no longer fully meet modern requirements.
Consequently, a comprehensive development of the airport infrastructure is planned. The project aims to expand flight geography, improve service quality considering the region's growing economic activity and increasing tourist flow.
The presentation covered issues of lengthening and widening the runway, modernizing airfield infrastructure, and constructing new passenger and cargo terminals.
The new passenger terminal, covering about 20,000 square meters, will be able to serve up to 1,200 passengers per hour – twice the current capacity. Additional aircraft parking spaces will also be created, increasing aircraft capacity to 10 units.
The new terminal will feature spacious waiting lounges, modern service areas, convenient check-in and control systems, as well as separate facilities for VIP guests.
The head of state emphasized that the airport is the “gateway” to any region and gave recommendations on organizing modern service, developing transport and related infrastructure.
The importance of designing, constructing, and subsequently managing the new terminal based on international standards with the involvement of foreign operators with relevant experience was stressed.
