Tashkent, Uzbekistan – AN Podrobno.uz. On the sidelines of the Regional Environmental Summit, a resolution titled "Green Shield of Central Asia" was signed, cementing the political will of the region's countries to create a large-scale system of protective forest belts and green barriers. The initiative is designed for 2026–2035 and aims to combat desertification, land degradation, and climate challenges.
The high-level panel session included representatives from all Central Asian countries, as well as China, international organizations, and the scientific community. They presented national strategies for reforestation and climate change adaptation, emphasizing the need for joint action.
Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan on Environmental Affairs Aziz Abdukhakimov noted that forest restoration is not only an environmental task but also a strategic priority directly linked to the region's sustainable development. He particularly highlighted the Aral Sea issue, where large-scale forest reclamation work has already been carried out on two million hectares of the dried seabed.
Participants stressed that the "Green Shield" will become a long-term platform for strengthening environmental security, preventing dust storms, and forming transboundary green corridors. The signing of the resolution was an important step toward consolidating the region's efforts and creating an environmentally safe future for Central Asia.
Earlier, a working group led by Presidential Advisor Aziz Abdukhakimov and Deputy Prosecutor General Isroil Adkhamov inspected the "Darkhon" scientific experimental station in the Tashkent district of the Tashkent region.
