A major channel for supplying substandard medicines has been shut down in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. During a joint operation by the Department under the General Prosecutor's Office and law enforcement agencies, a batch of drugs stored in unsanitary conditions and sold through pharmacy chains was seized.
The investigation revealed that two individuals had set up a scheme to purchase medicines via social networks. Lacking proper storage conditions, they stockpiled the drugs in unsuitable premises before supplying them to retail outlets. As a result of the inspection, law enforcement officers discovered over 29,000 packages of medicines across 90 different types. The total value of the seized goods amounted to approximately 2.6 billion soums.
The entire batch has been deemed substandard and added to the case file as material evidence. A criminal case has been initiated under two articles of the Criminal Code: Articles 186-3 and 228, which cover the circulation of counterfeit drugs and the use of forged documents. The investigation is ongoing.
It is worth recalling that Uzbekistan is preparing to launch online sales of medicines through marketplaces and delivery systems. This is provided for by a presidential decree aimed at developing e-commerce.
