President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during a meeting on April 29, ordered an increase in the number of planned artificial reservoirs in Tashkent. Initially, four artificial lakes were to be built, but the head of state noted that this was insufficient and instructed to raise the number to 12.

The meeting reviewed projects for landscaping the banks of rivers and canals in the capital, creating artificial lakes and reservoirs to form a cool microclimate. In particular, the “Daryo Bo‘yi” project will be implemented on a 16-kilometer section of the Chirchik River, covering an area of 306 hectares.

The project includes strengthening riverbanks, creating green areas, and placing trade and service facilities. Additionally, a “green belt” will be created along the Bektemir Canal on 187.3 hectares, with recreation areas, pedestrian and bicycle paths, internal roads, lighting systems, and bridges.

Deputy Mayor of Tashkent Abdulaziz Isroilov stated that artificial lakes will be built in all 12 districts of the city, featuring fountains, recreation zones, and green spaces. The president also resolved the financing issue.

In November, it was reported that the creation of 12 new artificial reservoirs was being discussed to increase humidity and improve the microclimate. In recent years, several reservoirs have been drained, and authorities have announced plans to restore part of the old ditch system and implement autonomous rainwater collection systems.

In March, Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzakov, in an interview with Gazeta, announced plans to create new parks on 140 hectares and a “green belt” on 25 hectares as part of the “I Also Plant a Tree” initiative.
