The Tashkent city administration has announced a new greening project for the capital. The initiative plans to plant over 500,000 trees by 2025.
According to city mayor Jahongir Ortiqkhodjaev, the initiative aims to improve air quality and mitigate the urban microclimate. “We see not only environmental but also social benefits,” he said.
The project will primarily cover central streets and parks. In the first phase, 50,000 saplings will be planted in the Yunusabad and Mirzo Ulugbek districts.
Experts note that this project could boost Tashkent’s ranking in green city indices. Currently, the city scores only 35 out of 100.
However, some environmentalists are skeptical about the project’s effectiveness. They claim that the tree care and irrigation system is insufficient.
