A citizen of Uzbekistan who lived abroad without a visa for over two decades, caring for her disabled husband, has returned home with the support of diplomats.
According to the Uzbek embassy, the woman sought help in February this year. An investigation revealed that she had been living in Pakistan without a visa since 2005 and was in a difficult life situation.
The woman said she came to Pakistan to marry a local resident. Shortly after the wedding, her husband was involved in a car accident and became disabled. She cared for him all these years, left without stable income or legal status.
Diplomats confirmed her identity and citizenship, processed the necessary documents for her return, and secured the cancellation of an $8,400 fine previously imposed for illegal stay.
Additionally, with the embassy's support, an air ticket was purchased for the woman. On May 2, she returned to Uzbekistan on a flight from Islamabad to Tashkent.
Earlier, a group of 82 Uzbek citizens faced problems returning from pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia via Turkey. The situation arose on April 18 at Sabiha Gökçen International Airport. Uzbek pilgrims found themselves in a difficult situation in the transit zone, requiring intervention from responsible services.
