Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Podrobno.uz. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reviewed the development plans for the leather and footwear industry, which is showing steady growth. In the first quarter of 2026, production volume in the sector increased by 25%, reaching 962 billion soums.

By the end of the year, this figure is planned to reach 5.4 trillion soums, and by 2030 – 12 trillion soums, with the creation of 12,000 new jobs.

Despite the positive dynamics, the industry still has a low level of deep processing of raw materials. Currently, only 30% of small cattle hides and about 15% of harvested wool are processed.

To remedy the situation, specialized industrial zones with modern infrastructure, logistics centers, and design schools will be created in the Akhangaran and Shakhrikhan districts.

In Akhangaran, an eco-friendly industrial cluster will be built with a centralized treatment system capable of reusing up to 8,000 cubic meters of water per day.

To expand the raw material base, it is proposed to simplify the import of hides through a "single window" system and compensate entrepreneurs for transportation costs.

In the Syrdarya region, a complex for processing 30,000 tons of wool is planned, which will create a complete chain for the production of finished products.

Special attention is paid to the trend of using artificial leather. Uzbekistan plans to launch 7 promising projects with a capacity of 50 million linear meters of products per year.

The head of state emphasized that to achieve the ambitious export target of $500 million by 2030, it is not enough to simply provide benefits – accurate calculations for each market and assistance to businesses in obtaining international certificates are necessary.
