Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has expressed condolences to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian over the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The Uzbek embassy in Tashkent confirmed the message.

In his letter, Mirziyoyev highlighted Khamenei's significant contributions to strengthening Iran's statehood, societal stability, and preservation of national values during his long tenure. He also noted that the memory of Khamenei, who played a key role in developing comprehensive cooperation between Uzbekistan and Iran, will remain cherished.

Khamenei, aged 86, served as Iran's Supreme Leader since 1989. Earlier, Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov held phone calls with counterparts from Middle Eastern countries, discussing the regional situation and conveying Mirziyoyev's words of support.
