In Tashkent's Mirzo-Ulugbek district, a section of road leading to the 'Buyuk Turon' overpass, which was reconstructed in 2024 at a cost of 128.6 billion soums and opened in August of that year, has collapsed. Photos circulating on social media show the damage at an interchange connecting Temur Malik Street to Buyuk Ipak Yuli Street.
Cracks were also observed on the opposite side of the road, potentially serving as precursors to the collapse. According to initial reports, there are no casualties from the incident. The Tashkent city administration stated that emergency services, technical experts, and representatives from responsible organizations were immediately dispatched to the site, with the area cordoned off.
In a statement, the administration noted that a comprehensive technical inspection is currently underway, and it is premature to draw final conclusions before its completion. Preliminary factors under consideration include the impact of heavy rainfall in recent days, such as excessive soil moisture and increased load on the structure. Concurrently, all related circumstances are being examined, including design decisions, quality of construction and installation work, condition of the drainage system, construction supervision, and the procedure for commissioning the facility.
Based on the inspection results, a decision will be made regarding restoration work. If violations or substandard work are identified, measures will be taken to hold those responsible accountable. This incident has raised public concerns about the quality and oversight of construction projects in Tashkent, particularly given the relatively recent reconstruction of the infrastructure asset.
