An 11th-grade student at School No. 12 in Bekabad, Tashkent Region, Jafarbek, was beaten and stabbed by several teenagers on March 5, leading to his death. A Kun.uz correspondent visited Bekabad to investigate the incident, uncovering conflicting accounts regarding the timing and location of the altercation.
The victim's mother claims the conflict occurred during school hours, outside the school premises. She states that five teenagers – three from School No. 3 and two from a technical college – arrived in a Nexia car. According to her, the assailants struck her son with a heavy object to the head, and when he lost consciousness, stabbed him in the heart area. Jafarbek was taken to a hospital by a passing car but succumbed to his injuries.
The principal of School No. 12, Azamat Urinbayev, asserts the incident happened after classes. He describes Jafarbek as a responsible and understanding student who always wanted to protect others. The mother, however, notes she received a call about the incident before noon, contradicting the principal's version.
The victim's grandmother, Gavhar Yuldosheva, expressed bitterness and distrust in the justice system: "My grandson did not live to see 18 springs. In this country, in this Bekabad, there is no truth for my boy. Instead of asking how we are coping, they are besieging the prosecutor's office to free their own. I do not believe they will be punished."
Kun.uz editorial staff contacted the regional prosecutor's office press service but received no response. The press secretary of the General Prosecutor's Office reported that a criminal case has been initiated under Article 97 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (Intentional Murder), and a minor suspected of inflicting the stab wounds has been detained. Investigative actions are promised to be comprehensive and objective.
