Students from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, will now have the opportunity to study at the law faculty of the University of Glasgow, one of the United Kingdom's leading higher education institutions, and earn a British diploma. This development follows negotiations during a visit to the UK by UWED's rector, Sodik Safoev, who also serves as First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.
During the meeting, the leadership of UWED and the University of Glasgow agreed to establish a joint master's program in legal studies. The University of Glasgow, which holds high positions in international rankings such as QS and THE, is a prestigious global institution. The parties signed documents for long-term academic cooperation, to be implemented through dual diploma and Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters formats.
Under the agreement, UWED students who successfully meet academic requirements will be able to obtain a diploma from one of the UK's top law schools. This partnership is expected to strengthen strategic ties between the universities and open new avenues for academic exchange and joint research projects.
It is worth noting that in 2025, approximately 28,9 thousand Uzbek citizens traveled abroad for education, studying in 35 countries worldwide, with the largest flow still directed toward neighboring states. This new agreement expands access for Uzbek students to prestigious Western European universities, potentially shifting some focus from traditional regional partners.
