In Uzbekistan, 1,912 people were convicted in 2025 under Article 270 of the Criminal Code, which covers responsibility for cultivating prohibited crops. Official court statistics reveal a broad range of penalties applied, from fines to actual prison terms, with the majority of offenses occurring in several key regions of the country.
The regions with the highest number of convictions were five areas: Fergana, Samarkand, Tashkent, Bukhara, and Kashkadarya. Courts in these regions most frequently handled cases related to the illegal cultivation of plants.
Out of the total number convicted, 211 citizens received actual prison sentences. However, judicial practice shows active use of measures not involving isolation from society. For instance, the vast majority of offenders—1,687 people—were sentenced to alternative punishments such as fines or corrective labor. An additional 14 individuals received suspended sentences, and in four cases, compulsory medical treatment was imposed.
