A major cybercrime committed by a resident of Syrdarya Region has been uncovered by Uzbekistan's internal affairs authorities. The 22-year-old suspect allegedly used malicious APK files distributed via Telegram to gain access to the mobile devices of more than 200 citizens from various parts of the country, stealing data linked to their bank cards.

The perpetrator installed harmful software on victims' phones, enabling unauthorized access to their bank accounts and personal information. Preliminary reports indicate that 211 individuals were affected by this scheme, with material damages exceeding 2 billion Uzbek soums. This incident highlights significant vulnerabilities in the region's cybersecurity infrastructure.

The investigation revealed that the suspect committed 121 cybercrimes. He has been detained under procedural measures and is currently in custody. Law enforcement agencies are conducting further investigative actions in this case, including checks for possible accomplices.

Experts are urging citizens to avoid downloading files or clicking on links from unknown sources and to take the protection of personal and banking data seriously. This case underscores the growing threat of cybercrime and the need for heightened public awareness regarding digital security measures.
