Operative department staff of the Tashkent Customs Administration have thwarted an attempt to illegally import a large batch of medical equipment from China. The market value of the seized batch is estimated at 1.4 billion Uzbek soums, significantly exceeding the amount declared in official documents.

The shipment was addressed to a limited liability company (LLC) in the capital, with documents stating it contained 5,400 units of dental products. However, during customs inspection, the actual quantity was found to be 82,500 units, which is 15 times more than declared.

Inspectors discovered not only an understatement of the quantity of goods but also 30 sets of expensive dental equipment that were not listed in the accompanying documents at all. The official value of the batch was only $5,400, but the real value is much higher.

According to preliminary estimates, the total market value of the medical items seized as evidence amounts to 1.4 billion Uzbek soums. This case highlights weaknesses in customs control and the prevalence of illegal activities in the region.

Currently, investigative actions are being conducted regarding this incident. Preliminary reports indicate that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are underway to identify individuals involved in the illegal operations.
