The government of Uzbekistan plans to implement cloud seeding technology in the capital and Tashkent region to improve air quality. According to a presidential decree, special equipment will be installed in areas with low humidity by October 1, 2027, aiming to increase precipitation and address environmental concerns such as drought and pollution.
The project will be funded from the State Targeted Fund for Solving Nationwide Environmental Problems. The Ecology Committee, Academy of Sciences, and Ministry of Higher Education have been tasked with studying successful foreign experiences and gradually introducing the technology, highlighting a strategic effort to combat climate change impacts in the region.
Cloud seeding technology was previously included in the state program for 2026. Under this program, starting March 1, 2026, a practical pilot project is to be developed, with at least 3–5 tests conducted to achieve a 10–20% increase in precipitation compared to natural levels. This initiative is seen as a significant step in mitigating water scarcity and enhancing ecological resilience in Uzbekistan.
