President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan chaired a meeting to discuss development prospects for the Namangan region. The session highlighted the region's achievements over the past eight years, with the number of enterprises increasing by 40,000 and production volumes growing sixfold. However, the president emphasized the need to identify new growth drivers amid global economic instability.
Digitalization and the adoption of high technologies have been designated as key priorities for Namangan's transformation. Plans include constructing a modern IT park worth $20 million, aimed at attracting international companies and fostering local startups. Additionally, the Davlatobod district will be developed into a "smart city," integrating a unified digital platform to manage utilities, transportation, and environmental monitoring.
Technological upgrades require substantial financial backing, leading to an ambitious target of attracting $5 billion in foreign investments in 2024. A new electrical substation will be built in the "Namangan" free economic zone, crucial for launching 15 major industrial projects valued at over $500 million.
Alongside industrial development, the region aims to establish itself as a hub for international tourism, positioning Namangan as the primary tourist center of the Fergana Valley. Announced projects include the "Qamchiq Mountain Resort" international mountain recreation zone, innovative complexes along the shores of Arashan lakes, and the creation of an artificial lake in the Nanay village.
The ultimate goal of these reforms is to enhance social welfare. The region plans to reduce unemployment to 3.5% and poverty to 2.5% by the end of 2024. This will be achieved through agricultural sector development, including expanding intensive orchards and launching large-scale poultry farming projects targeting exports to Arab countries. President Mirziyoyev instructed responsible officials to ensure the effectiveness of each project, translating digitalization, investments, and new initiatives into tangible incomes and opportunities for families in Namangan.
