On International Day of Zero Waste, over two thousand residents across Uzbekistan participated in cleanup activities to collect and send waste for recycling. In a single day, nearly 100 tons of garbage were gathered and transported using 40 units of special equipment, highlighting ongoing efforts in environmental protection and waste management in the country.
In Tashkent Region, the event took place in the "Qizil tog" area of Parkent District, where employees of the Waste Management Agency, representatives of youth organizations, schoolchildren, and volunteers engaged in plogging – combining sports with cleanup. The area was cleared of 1.7 tons of waste, with the "Toza hudud" team leading by collecting 195 kilograms.
Agency Director Sharifbek Khasanov emphasized that such initiatives not only help clean cities and districts but also foster a culture of environmental care. He noted that global waste volume could reach 308 billion tons by 2050, making it crucial to cultivate habits of proper waste disposal.
The campaign was held simultaneously in all regions of the country, with more than two thousand participants cleaning around 20 areas. These events have become a tradition, with annual activities like World Cleanup Day and the "Cleanliness and Improvement" month helping make cities and neighborhoods cleaner and more livable.
In Namangan, an innovative waste collection system is being implemented, with the first underground waste storage facilities put into operation. The pilot complex is located in the "Obi hayot" neighborhood on a street currently under reconstruction for 24-hour operation.
