The Indian government has implemented a significant overhaul of border entry procedures for foreign tourists. Effective April 1, 2026, paper-based Disembarkation Cards (DE-cards) will be completely discontinued, and all foreign nationals will be required to obtain an electronic Arrival Card (e-Arrival Card) instead.

Under the new regulations, the e-Arrival Card must be completed online no earlier than 72 hours before the flight. This process is accessible via the official portal of India's visa service or the Su-Swagatam mobile application. Currently, until March 31, paper and electronic forms are being accepted concurrently, but starting tomorrow, digital confirmation will become a mandatory requirement for passport control clearance.

Experts highlight that this change is expected to streamline border processing times, as pre-registered travelers can avoid queues at airports. This development is part of India's broader efforts to digitize its tourism sector and enhance border security measures.

It is noteworthy that these adjustments occur alongside shifts in visa policies in other nations, such as the United Kingdom. The UK government has approved a substantial increase in fees for entry documents, including tourist and student visas, set to take effect from April 8, which imposes additional financial burdens on travelers.
