According to a decree by the President of Uzbekistan dated November 9, 2025, the working hours in state medical institutions will transition to a five-day work week starting April 1, 2026. The Ministry of Health explained the implementation process, which includes on-duty shifts during holidays and weekends to ensure uninterrupted hospital operations.
A relevant order from the ministry has approved a temporary procedure for organizing the five-day work week in state medical facilities. In areas where the new healthcare model is implemented, working hours are set for polyclinics and family doctor points, with on-duty shifts carried out based on the ministry's Order No. 254. Salaries will be maintained and not reduced, but internal documents and employment contracts must be re-registered.
In inpatient hospitals, on-duty shifts will be permanently established, aimed at ensuring fair distribution of shifts and duties. The ministry's statement claims these changes are intended to support medical staff and improve their working conditions, but this reform may introduce additional challenges and disruptions to the healthcare system.
