Uzbekistan, Tashkent – reports about the introduction of an expiration date for vehicle registration certificates (technical passports) have sparked active discussions on social media. This development has led to various interpretations among car owners, prompting competent authorities to clarify the situation.

Specialists emphasize that setting validity periods for documents is a common practice. Currently, ID cards, civil passports, and many other state-issued certificates already have time limits. Introducing a similar norm for technical passports should not be perceived as an exceptional measure.

According to the new rules, the validity period for a vehicle registration certificate will be 5 years. The primary goal of this innovation is to conduct regular inventory checks of key vehicle components, such as the body and engine, to ensure safety and keep data up-to-date in a unified database.

It is important to note that this regulation came into effect on April 1. The new rules will apply exclusively to certificates obtained by citizens after that date. Documents issued earlier remain valid under previous conditions until their scheduled replacement or the vehicle's re-registration.
