The Hydrometeorological Service of Uzbekistan (Uzhydromet) has announced an avalanche warning for mountainous areas from April 4 to 8, 2026, due to expected precipitation and temperature fluctuations. Director Sherzodkhuja Khabibullakhuja stated that conditions at altitudes around 2,000 meters above sea level pose a significant risk of avalanches, prompting official alerts.
High-risk regions include districts in Kashkadarya (Kitab, Shahrisabz), Surkhandarya (Boysun, Saryasiya, Uzun), Samarkand (Samarkand, Urgut), Jizzakh (Bakhmal, Zaamin), Tashkent (Bostanlyk, Parkent, Akhangaran in the Chatkal mountain system), and Namangan (Pap) provinces. These areas are identified as particularly vulnerable to potential avalanche activity during the forecast period.
Experts advise residents and travelers to avoid trips to mountainous zones and adhere strictly to guidelines from emergency services. The warnings aim to enhance public safety and mitigate risks associated with natural hazards in the affected regions.
