According to the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2026 report, Uzbekistan has been ranked among countries with minimal terrorist activity. The nation has recorded virtually no significant terrorist incidents, placing it in the group with a "zero" or "very low" threat level. The report annually assesses terrorist threat levels across 163 countries, with Uzbekistan's risk index at approximately 0.1, corresponding to the 96th position.

The absence of major terrorist events in the republic in recent years distinguishes it positively against the backdrop of instability in neighboring regions. The authors of the study note that the low threat level strengthens the country's image as a safe destination for investment and tourism.

However, proximity to Afghanistan and Pakistan necessitates continuous monitoring and enhanced security measures. Neighboring Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan received a zero score on the terrorism index and ranked 100th in the GTI 2026 rating. In Central Asia, only Tajikistan showed a higher level of terrorist activity, securing the 41st place.

Previously, at an international seminar in the Swedish parliament, the Riksdag, Uzbekistan's experience in religious tolerance, countering extremism, and reintegrating former members of terrorist groups was presented. This highlights the country's ongoing efforts to bolster regional security amidst geopolitical challenges.
