According to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the 2024 cotton harvest in the country has concluded, with a total yield of 3.5 million tons. This figure represents an 8% increase compared to the previous year, highlighting the effectiveness of reforms in the agricultural sector.
The President attributed this achievement to policies modernizing the cotton cultivation system, introducing new technologies, and providing additional incentives to farmers. He emphasized that the cotton industry remains a crucial component of the national economy, but there is a need to enhance processing capacities to boost export value.
Experts view this outcome positively, yet they point to challenges such as volatility in global cotton prices and limited water resources. Uzbekistan aims to diversify its cotton exports and increase the share of processed products, which is vital for ensuring long-term sustainability.
