Uzbekistan has announced official data for its cotton harvest. Reports indicate that in the 2024 season, the country harvested 3.5 million tons of cotton, an 8% increase compared to the previous year. This result is attributed to agricultural reforms and the adoption of modern technologies.

Samarkand, Fergana, and Bukhara regions led in cotton production. Samarkand region recorded the highest yield among other areas, with 850,000 tons of cotton harvested. Regional authorities credit this achievement to the modernization of irrigation systems and the widespread introduction of new crop varieties.

Experts emphasize the need for additional investments to develop the cotton industry. Uzbekistan could boost export revenues by increasing cotton fiber processing capacity and expanding finished goods production. Currently, the country sells most of its cotton as raw material, which limits value addition.

The government announced plans to diversify the cotton sector and modernize agriculture. In the coming years, measures include reducing cotton cultivation areas and expanding the production of other crops, such as grains and vegetables. These steps aim to reduce dependency on cotton and enhance food security.
