In the Mirzachul district of Jizzakh Region, Uzbekistan, the deputy head of the district emergency situations department was detained by State Security Service officers and representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office Department on suspicion of accepting a bribe. The official was caught red-handed while receiving 3 million soums from a cafe owner.
According to the investigation, in exchange for this sum, the deputy head promised not to issue an administrative protocol, not to close the establishment, and not to submit collected materials to court. Thus, for monetary compensation, he allegedly offered to avoid legal consequences for identified violations, highlighting ongoing challenges in anti-corruption efforts within state institutions.
Currently, a criminal case has been initiated against the emergency services employee. Law enforcement agencies are conducting necessary investigative actions to establish all circumstances of the incident, which may lead to further legal proceedings and potential penalties, underscoring the persistent issues of graft in public service.
