Tashkent, Uzbekistan – AN Podrobno.uz. The Armed Forces of Uzbekistan are embarking on a large-scale integration of artificial intelligence technologies and strengthening digital defenses. President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during a presentation on army modernization, approved the establishment of a Department of Artificial Intelligence Technologies and a specialized cybersecurity laboratory within the central apparatus of the Ministry of Defense.

The creation of these new structures is driven by the nature of modern armed conflicts, where autonomous systems and electronic warfare tools play a key role. The AI department will focus on implementing machine learning technologies in troop command processes, while the cybersecurity laboratory will concentrate on protecting information systems and preventing external threats. Additionally, a Main Directorate of Digital Technologies will be established within the ministry to lead the army’s unified digital policy.

The technological upgrade will also affect the regional level: positions of deputy commanders responsible for digitalization and cybersecurity are being introduced in military districts. To ensure stable and secure communication across all regions of the country, a Satellite Communications Center will be set up.

During the presentation, special attention was paid to the experience of modern armed conflicts, where unmanned systems, electronic warfare means, and robotic complexes play a decisive role. The president was briefed on the activities of new mobile UAV units and shown the updated vertical structure of military education. It was noted that in 2025-2026, all military higher education institutions in the country received institute status, and a specialized University of Military Security and Defense began operating in Tashkent.

The transformation affected not only the structure of universities but also the content of training. Future officers and sergeants now study IT technologies, foreign languages, and methods of countering cyber threats in depth.

A unique three-level system has been introduced into the command and staff training program, and aviation specialists and drone operators will now undergo unified state certification. Those serving in the sergeant corps have been given the opportunity for distance learning in civilian specialties.

Following the event, the head of state approved a number of documents laying the foundation for the creation of national artificial intelligence models in the defense sector.
