The press service of the Tashkent city administration reported that on May 10, following intense rainfall, flooding complaints were received from 23 addresses across 8 districts of the city.

By district, the highest number of reports came from Mirzo Ulugbek district (6 addresses), Shaykhontohur district (4), and Yashnobod district (3). Additionally, 3 reports were from Mirabad district, 2 each from Almazar, Chilanzar, and Yunusabad districts, and 1 from Yakkasaray district.

According to specialized services, the volume of precipitation on May 10 reached 35 mm, with a significant portion falling in less than two hours, exceeding half of the average monthly norm.

The current stormwater drainage system in Tashkent is designed to handle up to 20 mm of precipitation per day. Under the master plan, a phased increase in capacity to 36 mm per day is envisaged.

During the most intense rainfall, the city's drainage infrastructure faced a sharp short-term load close to the projected design parameters. At certain points, the volume of water momentarily exceeded the capacity of existing irrigation networks and pipelines.

Local factors exacerbated the situation: clogging of drainage elements with debris, unauthorized constructions, and blocking of ditch and irrigation systems for parking or other economic needs.

To promptly eliminate the consequences, specialists and teams from emergency services, drainage-collector systems, canals, utilities, and other relevant organizations were deployed. Over 60 units of special equipment were used on site. As a result of the measures taken, the effects of the flooding were completely eliminated within an hour.

For each address, working groups conducted an initial assessment and identified necessary measures. These include installing irrigation systems at 5 addresses, re-examining one site with designers, installing 3 additional siphons, laying pipes with diameters of 800 mm and 500 mm, adding pumping units and increasing drainage capacity, installing 6 additional water intake grates, and strengthening the capacity of certain sections of the system.
