Law enforcement officers in Uzbekistan's Navoi region have thwarted an attempted contract killing. A 54-year-old resident of Zarafshan was detained as the alleged organizer of the crime, who reportedly planned to eliminate her nephew's husband due to personal animosity.
According to the regional police department, the motive stemmed from a prolonged conflict within the young family. Initially, the woman allegedly intended only to 'teach a lesson' to her son-in-law, but later escalated to planning his murder. She purportedly set the price for the hit at 40 million soums (approximately $3,600) and recruited two acquaintances, aged 32 and 34, to carry out the plan.
Police operatives, in coordination with the regional State Security Service, conducted a controlled simulation of the crime. A video purportedly showing the completion of the murder was sent to the woman via social media. Immediately after she transferred an advance payment of 2.3 million soums (about $200) to the 'executioners,' she was arrested red-handed.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 104 of the Criminal Code ('Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm'). During the preliminary investigation, authorities are working to establish all circumstances and details of the incident.
Earlier, Tashkent police prevented a brutal contract killing planned by a 39-year-old local resident against his own wife. Operational information allowed law enforcement to thwart the plan. The investigation revealed that the motive was a personal conflict: the alleged contractor was living a double life with two families.
