In the Sergeli district of Tashkent, an employee of a gas supply organization was arrested while receiving a large bribe. According to law enforcement, he promised to help register a business and connect a store to the gas network for $21,000.

The special operation was carried out by anti-corruption and economic crime units of the Tashkent Main Internal Affairs Directorate, together with the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes.

The investigation established that the man demanded $16,000 for assistance in processing documents for store registration, and another $5,000 for obtaining permission to connect the facility to gas supply.

The suspect was caught red-handed while receiving the full amount. A criminal case has been opened under articles 168 (Fraud) and 211 (Bribery).

Earlier, in one of the districts of Karakalpakstan, the head of a territorial department of the cadastral agency was detained while receiving a bribe of $2,000.
