A new museum dedicated to the famous Khorezm dance “Lazgi” and the ancient spiritual monument “Avesto” will open in Urgench, Uzbekistan. It will be housed in a building on the Tazmiyaz massif and will function as a branch of the State Museum of Modern Art of Uzbekistan.
The cultural center aims to promote the Lazgi dance, which is inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, and to introduce visitors to the Avesto, a key Zoroastrian text.
Modern exhibitions using digital technologies will be created to showcase the region’s rich heritage in a new format.
Funding will come from the local budget of Khorezm region, the museum’s own revenues, and sponsorships. The regional administration must complete renovation of the building, prepare exhibitions, and hire staff by July 1, 2026.
The museum is expected to become an important educational and tourist attraction, presenting Khorezm in a contemporary cultural space.
In addition, a major investment project is underway in the region. A modern Congress Hall complex and a new tourist district called “Boqiy Shahar” (Eternal City), designed in the style of traditional Khiva architecture, are being built in Urgench.
