The Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan intends to strictly suppress any manifestations of cruelty to animals in hospitality industry facilities.
The official reaction was prompted by two high-profile incidents in local hotels. In particular, a video from the Bostanlyk district of the Tashkent region gained wide publicity, where in December 2025 two employees of a recreation area committed actions qualified as animal torture. By court decision, both offenders have already been placed under administrative arrest. A second similar case was recorded in another accommodation facility.
The head of the committee admitted in an interview with Kun.uz that he had not been previously informed in detail about these incidents. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the republic has clear regulations for keeping animals in hotels, and a special center coordinates this work. Abdulaziz Akkulov assured that the department will ensure a targeted response to each such signal.
As part of prevention, the committee plans to request materials from law enforcement agencies on all incoming facts and conduct systematic work with hotel administrations.
At the same time, the department is developing a large-scale project called "tourist-friendly," aimed at creating a comfortable environment for all categories of travelers, including pet owners. The implementation of the program will be phased. At the first stage, emphasis will be placed on improving information accessibility, creating clear navigation, and translating menus into foreign languages.
According to the head of the committee, the main goal of the initiative is to ensure that every foreign citizen feels as comfortable and safe as possible in Uzbekistan.
