The Imam al-Bukhari Memorial Complex in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, has welcomed over 1 million local and foreign guests in its first month following a large-scale renovation. The upgraded facility has become one of the largest centers for pilgrimage tourism and spiritual attraction in the region.
The growing interest in the complex is highlighted in an article by Pakistani publication The World News, which focuses on the development of pilgrimage tourism in Uzbekistan.
The memorial complex was fully reconstructed on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Extensive construction work on the site began in April 2021. After the renovation, the complex's area expanded to 45 hectares. New facilities, modern service zones, pedestrian alleys, and rest areas were added.
Thanks to modernization, the complex's capacity increased more than fivefold, from 12,000 to 65,000 visitors per day.
Special attention was paid to landscaping and the architectural appearance of the complex. In the evening, buildings and structures are illuminated by a special lighting system that highlights elements of national-Islamic architecture.
The complex is actively visited not only by residents of various regions of Uzbekistan but also by foreign pilgrims and tourists, indicating growing international interest in pilgrimage tourism in the country.
The Imam al-Bukhari Complex is considered one of the key spiritual sites in Uzbekistan and plays an important role in promoting Islamic cultural heritage internationally.
