President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the Leaders' Summit of the 13th Session of the World Urbanization Forum in Baku. He stated that over the next 15 years, the country's population will grow from 38 million to 50 million, and the urbanization rate will rise from 51% to 65%.
According to the presidential press service, the annual volume of housing construction has increased tenfold over the past decade. In 2025, this figure reached 238,000 homes, and by 2030 it is expected to grow by another 1.5 times.
Approximately $2 billion is allocated annually from the state budget for affordable housing programs. To address informal housing, a separate law was adopted in 2024, and documents for nearly 100,000 homes have been formalized. The share of dilapidated housing renovation is planned to increase from 15% to 60%.
A National Committee on Urbanization has been established. Under the “Yashil Makon” and “Toza Havo” programs, the level of urban greening will reach 30% by 2030. The “New Tashkent” megaproject is designed for 2 million residents; in the first phase, investment projects worth $25 billion have been launched. Similar “New Uzbekistan” projects are being built in all regions – 61 such complexes have already been constructed, with the number expected to reach 100 by 2030.
Mirziyoyev also highlighted the link between urbanization and global stability, noting that the growing urban population exacerbates social problems.
