American soul and R&B star, 13-time Grammy winner John Legend will perform in Central Asia for the first time. The solo concert program titled "An Evening of Songs and Stories," organized by the Uzbekistan Foundation for the Development of Culture and Arts, will take place on June 8 in Samarkand.
The stage, set opposite the historic Registan complex, will feature Legend's greatest hits, including global chart-toppers "All of Me," "Love Me Now," "Ordinary People," and others. Tickets for the concert are available on afisha.uz.
Born John Stephens, Legend began his career as a session vocalist and pianist. His breakthrough came through Roc-A-Fella Records, founded by rapper Jay-Z, and collaboration with Kanye West. West noticed Stephens, brought him into his projects, and helped coin the stage name "Legend."
His debut album "Get Lifted" (2004) won five Grammy Awards and sold approximately three million copies worldwide, with "Ordinary People" as the lead single. Subsequent albums "Once Again" (2006), "Evolver" (2008), and "Love in the Future" (2013) solidified his status as a leading soul artist.
"All of Me" has amassed over 2.6 billion views on YouTube and become the world's most popular wedding song. To date, Legend has released nine studio albums, the latest being "My Favorite Dream" in 2024.
Beyond music, Legend is an actor and producer. He is a member of the prestigious EGOT club, having won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards. He won an Oscar and Golden Globe for the song "Glory" from the film "Selma." His acting credits include "La La Land," "The Butler," and the lead role in "Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert."
His production company Get Lifted Film Co has deals with Universal Studio Group, HBO, and Netflix. He executive produced the melodrama "Southside with You" about Barack and Michelle Obama's first date and the indie drama "Monster."
