The Tashkent Metro is set to overhaul its fare system, moving from a fixed tariff to a distance-based pricing model. According to a presidential decree issued on May 15, the cost of a trip will be calculated based on the distance traveled or the number of stations passed.

The new system will incorporate the following principles: distance-based payment; discounted fares for certain social groups; and the introduction of daily, weekly, and monthly travel passes to enhance passenger convenience.

The Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Tashkent Metro JSC, and the Tashkent city administration have been tasked with developing proposals for the new system, drawing on international best practices.

The new fare system is expected to take effect on January 1, 2027. Relevant proposals must be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers within six months after approval by the supervisory board of Tashkent Metro JSC.
