The Uzbekistan national football team is set to play a friendly match against the Netherlands on June 8 in New York. Social media reports claimed that the Uzbekistan side is paying the Royal Dutch Football Association $300,000 for the game.
Former head of the national teams department of the Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA), Sherzod Igamberdiev, wrote that $300,000 is being spent on the closed-door friendly. He noted that matches against Cameroon, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Venezuela, Russia, the United States, Mexico, Uruguay, and Canada were played without any payment, and instead earned $525,000.
The UFA has denied these reports. In a statement, the association said: “This information is not true. No money is being paid to the Netherlands football federation for the friendly match. The costs of organizing the match — stadium rental, security, broadcast, and other organizational expenses — are shared equally between the parties under the agreement. UFA operates on the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation and current international norms.”
The association urged fans, media, and the public not to trust false information.
