President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree awarding Valeriy Tyan, who led the national airline for many years, the 'Shukhrat' medal on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
The document highlights Tyan's long-term effective work in state bodies, his great contribution to the implementation of large-scale reforms in the country, including the development of civil aviation. He was also recognized for strengthening interethnic harmony, friendship, and solidarity, promoting the peaceful policy of New Uzbekistan internationally, and educating the younger generation in the spirit of love for the Motherland and respect for universal values.
Valeriy Tyan (born in 1946) headed the state flight safety inspection from 1998 to 2002. From June 2002 to August 2017, he served as the general director of the national airline 'Uzbekistan Airways'. He graduated from the Krasnokutsk Flight School and the Leningrad Academy of Civil Aviation, and served as a commander on aircraft including the An-2, An-24, Il-62, Il-76, Il-86, A-310, and Boeing 757/767.
From 2010 to 2020, he was a member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. In 2020, he was appointed deputy chairman of the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendly Relations with Foreign Countries under the Cabinet of Ministers. Currently, he works as an advisor to the chairman of the non-governmental non-profit organization 'Alliance of Sister Cities'.
