Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied reports that the country may host centers for the deportation of migrants from the European Union.

The press service of the ministry stated that information about plans to establish such centers in the country is false. "Currently, negotiations on this issue with European Union institutions are not being conducted and are not planned," the ministry said.

The reports refer to new EU rules on returning third-country nationals who have no right to stay in the bloc. The EU Council and Parliament have provisionally agreed on a document aimed at speeding up deportations and allowing member states to create so-called return centers.

Such centers could operate based on agreements with third countries and in compliance with international human rights standards.
