Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Podrobno.uz. Electricity generated by Uzbekistan's future nuclear power plant will cost less than 1,000 soums per kilowatt-hour, according to Azim Ahmedkhodjaev, head of Uzatom, who spoke to journalists at the project's construction site.
He stated that the final cost will depend on the development of the energy market and the formation of a regulatory system in the sector. Currently, the project is at the stage of economic calculations, so a specific tariff has not yet been fixed.
“Now, given that we are implementing the project, I would not name a specific cost. It is within the average parameters of current tariffs. We take into account that the energy market will develop, and we have tasks to develop the regulator,” he noted.
In response to a clarifying question from journalists about whether the tariff would exceed 1,000 soums per kWh, the head of Uzatom emphasized that the cost would be below this level.
Earlier, it was reported that after reaching full capacity, the nuclear plant would generate about 15.4 billion kWh per year, covering more than 15% of the republic's total electricity consumption.
