The Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan has registered 'Andijan Devzira Osh' as a geographical indication, placing its name and traditional recipe under state protection.
'Andijan Devzira Osh' is one of the most famous dishes of Uzbek cuisine. It is prepared from a special variety of devzira rice grown in the Fergana Valley. The rice has a reddish tint, dense and aromatic grains, making the pilaf fluffy, tasty, and very fragrant.
The geographical indication status means the name and preparation technology are officially protected, helping preserve uniqueness, guarantee quality, and maintain authenticity.
The Ministry of Justice noted that the new status will also promote the gastronomic potential of the Andijan region, develop national brands, support tourism, and popularize Uzbek culinary culture internationally.
It is emphasized that 'Andijan Devzira Osh' is not just food, but a symbol of hospitality, traditions, and the rich cultural heritage of the people of Uzbekistan.
Previously, 'Tashkent Wedding Pilaf' (Toshkent to‘y oshi) also received geographical indication status.
