Uzbekistan's Ministry of Emergency Situations has set the task to begin bank protection works in the Uzun district following the May mudflows. The decision was made based on the results of studying the situation on site.

According to the ministry's press service, a meeting was held in the Uzun district with residents of the Akmachit and Babatag mahallas. Specialists discussed the consequences of the mudflows observed in late May. They also examined the current state of hazardous areas where mudflows could occur.

Suggestions and comments from activists and mahalla chairmen were heard. Based on the meeting's results, priority tasks were identified: clearing riverbeds, strengthening banks, and ensuring public safety.

Earlier, it was reported that heavy rains and mudflows in the Boysun district of Surkhandarya region damaged an oil storage facility, leading to the spread of oil-containing liquid along natural channels to neighboring districts.
