On June 11, the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Forensic Expertise” [No. LRU-1152] was adopted. The law aims to regulate relations in the field of forensic expertise.

According to the law, the position of a state and non-state forensic expert can be held by a citizen of Uzbekistan who has a higher education, has undergone training in a specific forensic specialty, and holds a certificate (license) granting the right to conduct forensic examinations.

The state register of forensic experts is maintained by the Ministry of Justice.

The organizational forms of forensic expertise include the Chamber of Forensic Experts of Uzbekistan (Chamber), a non-state non-profit organization based on membership of forensic experts.

Under the law, the body (person) that ordered the forensic examination provides the expert with the necessary research objects and case materials for conducting studies and issuing a conclusion. It also collects samples for research and attaches them to the case in accordance with procedural legislation.

The time limit for conducting a forensic examination is 30 calendar days. If it is impossible to complete the examination within 30 days, the body (person) that ordered it is notified 3 working days before the deadline, and the term may be extended by agreement with that body (person).

After completing the research, the forensic expert or the commission of forensic experts draws up a conclusion, which is signed by the expert or each expert in the commission.
